Framlingham guide

Framlingham
Guide to Framlingham Castle

I was rather pleased to come across a card guide for Framlingham Castle issued by the Department of the Environment. It consists a a double-sided piece of card, folded down the middle to make four sides: cover, plan with route, a textual ‘Tour of the Castle’, and then a short ‘Description of the Castle’. The guide also included some line drawings. This seems to have been published in 1977 and sold for 4 p.

Such guides seem to have been replaced by the ubiquitous audio guides. (‘turn left, look up …’) But I can remember the fun of using these guides to explore historic sites … and to begin to understand their importance.

Interestingly the guide was tucked intoF.J.E. Raby’s MPBW guide to Framlingham Castle (1959).
