Torone was an important city in Chalkidike, Greece, perhaps founded in the 8th century BC. The capture of the city by forces under the command of the Spartan Brasidas in 424/3 BC (during the Peloponnesian War) is described by the historian Thucydides (4.110-114).
Joint Greek and Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens excavations have concentrated on the acropolis and cemetery. (Further details here.)
